Notes & Comments on the Root Directory:

These are drivers, firmware and info for various modems from various suppliers, collected across the years by Modem-Help during our researches into the world’s modems. Also included is a mass of technical info from various modem-chipset manufacturers. All of these files are organised by their manufacturer, arranged alphabetically (mfcs_A, mfcs_B, etc.).

Also provided are some modem-related utilities which you will find within the ‘utilities’ directory.

Finally, there is a mass of not-related-to-modems stuff within the ‘non-modem’ directory. This has also been collected across the years by Modem-Help during our researches into the world’s modems! As well as a large amount of heterogeneous, and essential, computer-related stuff (pdf-viewers and the like) there is also a good selection of fun-stuff in the ‘Media’ directory.

MD5 + “allfiles.md5”:

Linux users have a utility called ‘md5sum.exe’ supplied with the OS that allows them to find the md5-checksum on any file or text-string; Windows users do not (much too complicated for children to understand) (irony). The folks from Cygwin (a free software suite to run Linux under Windows) have provided a MSDOS version of md5sum.exe which is fully effective under all versions of Windows. Modem-Help provides this utility, plus a small suite of batch files that use it, within the /Utilities/ directory. There is also step-by-step help on how to check the integrity of a downloaded file in the Forums.

Although many of these drivers will prove to be a life-saver for some, each person needs to consider carefully the Disclaimer from liability provided within the site Copyright notice. We guarantee only that the file has been trojan- and virus-checked, and that the content has not changed since that check (via md5, filesize + timestamp).

On downloading a file, if any of the current md5, filesize or timestamp has changed from those recorded for the file, a failure notice appears on screen and the file is not dispatched (do let us know).

All files provided have originated from a vast range of sources, many of which no longer exist. Virtually none have been tested by Modem-Help upon a modem that it is supposed to support.

Site Info, History & Page Stats

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (still maintained, but just re-direction pages to this site). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.
