These are generic drivers for any ISA, External or PCMCIA modems based on the MD5660 chipset. This chipset was originated by Ambient (as the Cutlass III) and was based on the original work by Cirrus. The chipset was continued by intel when it took over Ambient.

The chipset requires v6.50 firmware (2000/10/19) (that will specifically affect non-PnP modems). In 2001 the driver names were altered to be ‘V.92’ names. Please note that this is pure marketing-speak, as the modems do not make any use (nor report) any V.92-specific features, and will thus continue to connect at normal V.90 rates.

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone).
