Please note that the file within ‘585_v6_8.2.7.7.bli.7z’ is “Premium Demo” firmware. The principal consequence of this is that embedded web-pages have ‘PREMIUM DEMO’ plastered across each page. In all other respects it is standard, generic firmware.

This contains a BootP file, which can be loaded from LAN-side using a Thomson Update Wizard (64-bit + Vista+, Mac & Linux), or manually using a tFTP/bootP server (avoids the need for a username/password login, which the Wizard may insist on).

Here is a quick checklist for trouble-free upgrading:
  • Backup your configuration file FIRST!

    (the wizard is supposed to auto-restore your current config as the final step, but has been known to fail)

  • Disconnect from the internet
  • Computer connection via ethernet (no wireless) on port #1
  • Switch off ALL firewalls
  • Switch off ALL Anti-Virus software (not easy)
  • Set a fixed IP on the computer within your Gateway’s IP sub-net (HowTo PDF available)

Site Info, History & Page Stats

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.
